Do’s & Don’ts This Summer

Do’s & Don’ts This Summer
5th June 2019 James D

So with the dawn of June comes the dawn of endless Summer events. Think Ascot, Queens Cup & Summer Garden Parties… For those of us who are familiar with the British weather, dressing for such events can often be a daunting task. Looking chic, whilst trying to stay comfortable and practical and experiencing 4 seasons in a day is agreeably hard. We are lucky enough to have the incredible dress designer Emilia Wickstead offer some do’s and don’ts for formal dressing in the summer months….

There is something so lovely and romantic about an English Summer. I always love to hatch ideas of what outfits to wear for the summer ahead. With some really beautiful natural colours in gardens and at events, it’s a really exciting time of the year to explore colour palettes, materials and cut.

The summer is inevitably a busy season and I always start with choosing really great quality fabrics that are breathable and comfortable to wear. In my spring summer collections I love to use colour and prints that can easily take you from a wedding reception to an evening dinner.

For me, I will choose quite a natural look for my hair, often worn up with a low bun. It’s important you really feel yourself even when you’re really smartening up and for me this is just a classic look.

Whatever your event that you are attending is, be it a Wedding, a day at Ascot or Wimbledon my top piece of advice is to always be prepared. Thinking in advance for the big day means you can really enjoy creating your outfit, perhaps buying a bespoke hat or a special pair of shoes. When you’re not rushed, it also really means you can choose something that will be a really special piece in your wardrobe that you will want to wear again in years to come.

For some, Ascot marks the start of summer sporting events. It’s a really wonderful display of fashion and you can really have some fun with your outfit. Try out bold prints, structured yet light silhouettes and choose shoes that will carry you through the day.

I have so much joy for Wimbledon, the classic style and nostalgic feeling mixed with the exciting tension that builds with the game really makes it special. Really in the full swing of summer, colours of cream, whites and pastels will look lovely. Wide leg trousers and a blouse would look great. Whatever your style, choose something that won’t crease too easily from being seated.

Weddings are such a happy day and in the summer we really can express that with our fashion. Gorgeous hats and colourful prints are a must. You can always opt for something long that is light and keep you cool through the day.

Serpentine Summer Party is always filled with the great and the good. Wonderfully with celebrating art, you really can embrace your creative side. There will naturally be a some gorgeous colours worn for the evening so you can also think about textures, tailoring and embellishments.

Don’t forget Fathers Day on the 16th June. It is important to use this time to remind the dads in our, and our children’s lives, how special they are. Finding the perfect present can be exciting and fun but it can also be a bit tricky especially if he has EVERYTHING. Thankfully STORCX is here to offer our top tips for finding the perfect gift for the dads!

Globe trotter, countryman, connoisseur, down to earth, cook or an artist? At the end of the day everyone loves to feel special and that you really take note of what it is they enjoy.

This is a wonderful way in which to let someone know that you went that extra mile to get something especially for them. Personalised luggage, a bespoke backgammon board, by adding a personal touch it demonstrates thought, and planning and it will also be something they will cherish forever. In our opinion the more creative, the better!

Think outside the box and get something timeless. Whether they are a tech head, a country bumpkin, or a city slicker think of something that will last a life time. An item that can be passed down through the generations, isn’t that what Fathers Day reinforces? If it’s a bit above budget, club together with your siblings to get something AMAZING that wont tip the bank balance.

Whether you are shopping for yourself or for gifts for a loved one we hope we have provided a little help.
