Summer is finally here! The summer sun and warm rays of light are putting us all in high spirits. For most, dreams of sea, sand & sun start to occupy the mind, accompanied by a string of after thoughts to accompany this summer day dreaming; mostly how can I get fit, stay health y and look bikini ready!

 

With feeling fabulous comes celebrations and the desire to have some fun during the glorious long summer days. Think Barbeques and picnics, Pimm’s & friends and family, lazy long afternoons basking in the sun. Don’t forget to #storcxit & organize a gift for your host, or club together to equally contribute to the event. Midsummers is a perfect time to embrace this mood. It is a celebration of the longest day of Summer, rooted in ancient Midsummer traditions, and surrounded by mythical tales of fairies and supernatural visitors. Embrace this wonderful mystic festival and organize a party with friends to celebrate. Dress like fairies and dance around a maypole and create a day to remember.

So, for those who are planning an exit to warmer shores this July don’t forget to make sure you have organized your packing and any hostess gifts. It’s so much easier to arrive prepared if you are staying with friends and nothing shows gratitude by giving them a warm thank you gift on arrival. Something personalized or something to mark the dates or memory, always goes down well. It’s a wonderful way to show your host how appreciative you are and it’s a great way to start the holiday!

We all know that what you eat is equally as important as exercising to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Many of us also know what we should eat to healthy but what can be tricky is how to stick up your healthy habits when you have a busy schedule.

As a mother of two and CEO of Bodyism, I sometimes find it tricky to maintain a healthy regime during especially stressful periods. I have a few tricks that I will share with you that I find easy to stick to. So at least I have the basics right and I keep them consistent, even during the busiest weeks.

1. SLEEP

If you get a good night’s sleep, you’re much more likely to stick to a healthy diet and not crave sweet and unhealthy foods during the day. I drink a Bodyism Serenity shake at night time to help me unwind and relax if needed.

2. GUT HEALTH

I start every morning with a shot of probiotics. I prefer a liquid formulation called Symprove as it contains four unique strains of live activated bacteria. It takes 2 seconds and it’s the easiest way to start the day right and keep my digestive system working properly.

3. STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR
You might think having a sugary snack will boost your energy levels when you hit the mid-afternoon slump. It might perk you up for 20 minutes or so but after that you will feel even more tired than before. Instead grab a handful of nuts and some berries. If I’m really craving something sweet I usually go for a dairy free, sugar free chocolate or our Bodyism banana bread from the Bodyism cafe. All the products at the cafe are refined sugar free and also gluten free so they might taste naughty but they are all good for you.

4. MASSAGE

During busy and stressful weeks, you might think you don’t have time for a massage. I would argue that those are the times you need it the most, so try to make the time. An hour treat to yourself will give you new energy and make sure you are more productive and focused.

5. EXERCISE
I mix up my exercise routine depending on what my schedule and mood is like that week. During busy weeks I do more yoga and pilates to get a workout without increasing my cortisol levels.

These five things are my non-negotiables that I make sure to squeeze into my schedule even during the most stressful times of my life. If I can stick to these then the rest of my healthy habits tend to fall into place and are easier to follow.
